Benefits & Services
Union Membership works for you 24 hours a day.
As a member of Local 888 you have a written, legally binding contract with your Employer, known as a collective bargaining agreement that spells out the conditions of your employment. That written contract, which is constantly being improved through the years, is one of the most important benefits of belonging to a labor union. The contract provides a tool whereby specific procedures may be used in resolving disagreements with your employer or problems in general in the workplace. It also permits members to know their entitlements and guarantees uniform working conditions throughout the terms of the contract.
In addition to the contract, the union provides other benefits and services. The Health and Welfare department is there to provide health care and retirement benefits. The Union Plus program helps members save their hard-earned dollars by providing many discounts, our educational classes and scholarship program give our members a way to improve their educational standing. And finally, the on-site representation given to each member by his/her shop steward is an invaluable resource.
We know that life is just not work, and as such Local 888 organizes various activities for you, your family and friends. Each year we generally have a Spring trip to Atlantic City, a Summer picnic in upstate New York, and a march in the annual Labor Day parade. For more information regarding these events, please contact Lourdes Lanzot at 1(800) 223-1503, ext 129.
